2018: A Year in Review - Part 2

Elsa Adams of Buffalo Center is the 2018 Little Miss at the Winnebago County Fair. She was selected for the honor from among 13 contestants on the opening day of the fair on Thursday, July 19. Elsa is the daughter of Cody Adams and Ashley Cox.

The weather turned out great for the 14th annual Rake Tractor Ride, which took place on Saturday, June 23. Organizer Phil Benn says turnout was up by five this year, with 133 tractors taking part in the trek to Scarville, Walters, MN, Kiester, MN, and Bricelyn, MN.

Heavy rainfall left parts of Thompson underwater on Sunday, June 24, as the community experienced nearly six inches of rain in a short period of time.

The 4th of July fireworks display had to wait a day, after storms rolled in at dusk on Wednesday, July 4. Conditions were better on Thursday night, as the Buffalo Center Fire Department put on a show at Bison Field to cap off the Bison Firecracker Days celebration.

Tyler Murray of Buffalo Center took home the trophy for Grand Champion Breeding Beef at the 2018 Winnebago County Fair. He won first place with his Angus junior yearling, as he took part in the show Friday, July 20 as a member of the Bison FFA Chapter.

North Iowa students will soon have a new dedicated room for project-based learning, as the school is converting the old cafeteria in the basement of the 1922 building into a “Makerspace” this summer.
