Betty was born on January 13, 1932 to Glenn and May (Boyner) Peregrine in Newell, South Dakota. She graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1950. She then made the trip to California where she met the love of her life, Charles Schumann. They were united in marriage on January 23, 1952 in Sun Valley, California. Eventually they returned to the Midwest settling in Buffalo Center. Together they owned and operated Buffalo Lanes and Casey’s General Store. Betty enjoyed her time educating the local youth on the finer points of bowling. She also spent many hours making sure the books were as clean as her house. Following the death of her husband, Betty moved back to Sturgis, South Dakota. In 2003, she moved to Fairmont to be closer to her family.

She attended the Christian Church and previously attended the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center. She was an active member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and Bison Unlimited. Betty greatly enjoyed decorating for all the holidays. She loved sending cards and keeping in touch with family and friends. Betty always looked forward to her autumn retreat to West Oaks in Okoboji.

Betty and her family are forever grateful for Karen Plathe who allowed Betty to maintain her independence.

Prospect, Illinois; grandchildren, Dana (Mike) Whittlinger, Heidi (Jeremy) Howard, Adam (Sonja) Williamson, Tucker (Tracie) Schumann, Avery Johnson and Max Johnson; great grandchildren, Ryan and Trevor, Kyra and Wyatt, Madison and Isaac, Cooper and Cable; great great-granddaughter Paxton; Brother, Bob (Donna) Peregrine of Rapid City, South Dakota; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
