Bison drop first game to H-LP

North Iowa hosted the Wolves from Harris-Lake Park in their football season opener last Friday night, as the Bison look to be improved this fall despite a 34-12 loss.

The Bison were the first to score in the second quarter of the game, as Isaiah Walk carried in a 47-yard touchdown run. The Wolves struck back on the following kickoff, however, as H-LP’s Edgar Tapia returned the ball 63 yards for a touchdown. H-LP went on to score twice more in the second quarter, on two touchdown passes from Brady Sohn to Isaac Ihnen. The Wolves picked up four extra points. The Bison got on the board again when Walk ran in a 53-yard punt return, cutting H-LP’s advantage to 22-12 at halftime.

Neither team scored in the third, but the Wolves added two more touchdowns in the fourth, including a 34-yard run by Sohn and an eight-yard pass from Sohn to Ihnen.

“We played a fairly good defensive game, not letting H-LP score in either of the first or third quarters,” said Head Coach Brad Bengtson. “We need to correct some issues with our pass defense moving forward, but we did pretty well versus the run."
