Finding family history in Buffalo Center

The Buffalo Center Historical Society played host on Labor Day to Steven and Jen Arkwright of Clarkston, MI, who were in town to seek more information on Steve’s ancestors, the Arkwrights and the Pritchards.

Steve’s grandparents Dennis Leroy (D.L.) and Addie S. Arkwright owned a department and grocery store in the 1920s where Main Street Market is today. By 1932, his grandfather had died and Addie moved into the smaller store next door (now NGT).

In 1940, she left Buffalo Center with her children for Des Moines. D. L. Arkwright purchased an empty lot on north Main Street and built a house there, which has been known lately as the Heiman House.
