Schlake retires from FTSB Friday

Elroy Schlake will cap off a 31-year career at Farmers Trust & Savings Bank this Friday, June 28, as the bank celebrates his retirement with an open house. Customers and friends are invited to the Heritage Town Center in Buffalo Center on Friday to visit with Elroy and enjoy a meal from 4:30- 6:30 p.m.

Schlake has spent his entire career in lending, and he got his start in 1979 at the Farmers Home Administration in Omaha, NE. He began working prior to graduating from college in December of that year, with a major in Agriculture Economics and a minor in Agronomy. In 1982, he went to Ottumwa, where he served at Norwest Bank and Union Bank & Trust. In 1988, he came to FTSB in Buffalo Center for a chance to work at a small, independent bank. Bill Ley was the owner of the bank at the time, and he hired Schlake in January of that year.

“My wife and I fell in love with this community,” said Schlake. He and his wife, Melody, raised three daughters here: Tia-Lisa, Kristi, and Ashley. Schlake says he’s blessed to have worked with so many wonderful customers and fellow employees, as well as great leadership at FTSB. “The customers and people I’ve worked with are so important to me,” said Schlake. “The people of Buffalo Center and the surrounding area have been absolutely fantastic.”
