Sewing project supports local emergency crews

Buffalo Center’s emergency responders are among the beneficiaries of an annual sewing project in Blue Earth, MN. Michele’s Quilting and Sewing Center in Blue Earth held its ninth annual Super Sewing Sunday this year on Super Bowl Sunday, where area sewers come together for a cause. This year, they sewed stuffed animals, which police, fire and ambulance crews can give to children to comfort them during a time of distress.

About 20 volunteers helped out with the effort, including Deidre Willmert of Buffalo Center. The group’s goal was to make 110 stuffed animals, but they ended up with 153. Usually the Super Sewing Sunday projects only benefit the communities of Faribault County, but since there were so many extra stuffed animals, the group sent 10 of them with Willmert to distribute to the emergency responders in Buffalo Center.
