Trap shooters complete season at state

The North Iowa trap shooting team had a successful spring, as they competed in 10 meets, including the state championship meet held June 8 in Cedar Falls.

Highlights of the season included Jordan Ostrander’s fourth place finish at the Mohawk Invitational on May 21, where she scored 47 out of 50.

Thomas Blodgett shot a perfect round of 25 at the Osage shoot on May 14, where he scored 48 out of 50. Blodgett went on to shoot two perfect rounds at the state championship on June 8.

Also scoring a perfect round at state was Jerrit Westfall, who hit 25 rounds in a row to earn a patch during his first year of trap shooting.

Nick Sabin placed third at the Iowa Games on May 14, where he scored 47 out of 50.

“Overall, we did quite well,” said Head Coach Keith Frerichs. He says this was the first year of trap shooting for seven of the 10 kids out for this year’s team. “I’m looking forward to next season with the skill, dedication and excitement I see in the team.”
